Albertville Harriers Club Championship 21/22 and why we do it!
Currently, we’re two races into the 21/22 Club Championship and already preparing for the 3rd which is the Colin Glen Parkrun!
The first race of the season was a 5k race along the towpath beside the M2/M5 and back. It was a great effort by all especially those who had just completed the Belfast Marathon 2 weeks beforehand! However, that didn’t stop everyone from putting in their full effort for a great first race. The results were:
Winner: Neil Johnston
Second: Gareth Watson
Third: Ben Luney
Then the most recent race was the McConnell Shield Cross Country (XC) up in Sixmilewater Park, Ballyclare. The runners that took part in the challenging race all did extremely well given the terrain and all showed other clubs how it’s done! The results were:
Position | Finish Time | Name | Category | Distance |
70 | 35:44 | Brian Kingston | M50 | 5 Miles |
78 | 36:53 | Paul Gorman | M45 | 5 Miles |
52 | 23:39 | Marlaine Duffy | F45 | 3 Miles |
73 | 26:09 | Vic Davis | F50 | 3 Miles |
These Club Championship races are a great experience for all our club members to compete and earn points for each race they compete in, there’s always a friendly rivalry that keeps things interesting and motivates runners to get signed up and train as often as they can! We also use some of these races to raise money for our charity for the year, this year that charity is Lighthouse, which is an organisation committed to the prevention of suicide and self-harm; the promotion of positive mental health, and the provision of support services to families who have been bereaved due to suicide.
If the idea of a friendly competition that will help push you as a runner sounds interesting; we’re always looking for new members of all abilities, so feel free to give us a shout and come down on one of our training nights. We’re a friendly bunch and look forward to helping you in your running career ?
